New Abstract Floral Paintings by Megan Carty

I’ve been refining my abstract floral paintings to have more layers, depth, and abstraction. I’m focusing on larger sizes for them as well, which has been a lot more fun than I thought it would be. The process has forced me to slow down, be more deliberate and to think ahead. Rather than feeling arduous, this feels very therapeutic and cathartic on completion. I’ve been using darker background colors to add drama that makes it more fun. Going forward I plan to do a big collection of these and my other body of abstract expressionist works. Both subjects bring me so much joy and excitement! Which is your favorite of mine: Florals or abstracts?

Abstract Floral Painting by Megan Carty

Hi! I’m so productive lately as I paint an array of abstract floral pieces. I’m loving working with bright color and it really brings my soul to life. I’ve worked so hard to produce floral paintings that are distinctly my own style and recognizable as mine. I’m proud of that!

Artist's Edit: Style this Abstract Floral Painting!

I realized recently that sharing my artwork with you is great, but showing HOW it can work in your space is even better! Each month I will post as part of a new series I’ve created called “Artist’s Edit” where I take one of my paintings and style it for an imaginary space using furniture and accessories I think would go well with it. If you like it, I hope you’ll consider pinning it to your Pinterest boards!

First up: this featured art piece is one of my favorite modern abstract floral paintings called “I Forgot to Weed” and it comes FRAMED in an awesome golden floater frame. I think it’s the perfect complement to a den or office; much (but not ALL) of the furniture and accessories I suggest here are by Article.

New Abstract Floral Painting

Hi friends!

I just completed my newest abstract floral painting and titled it "Here, Not Here." I consider this a self-portrait of my brain/personality coping with depression and anxiety. It's not all blackness and despair! I am so blessed and have so much to be grateful for and fulfilled by. And there are days where I feel so dry, sad, unmotivated, desperate and invisible...these feelings co-exist with feelings of joy, love, pride, and gratitude. Some days are better than others and some are absolutely terrible and scary. It's always different. The bottom line is, for me, these thoughts and feelings are always there TOGETHER as a Yin and Yang in my own mind. Harmony and dissonence. Dark and light. You can't have one without the other.

It is 30x48", acrylic, pencil and charcoal on gallery-wrapped canvas. It's gloss-varnished for protection and has hanging-hardware installed. I highly recommend a gold floater frame for this...it would be amazing!

30 Paintings in 30 Days: Day 5

Vintage-inspired turquoise and yellow floral painting Hi friends!

Welcome to Day 5 of the painting challenge! This is the same bouquet I painted in Day 2; but this time I added my own color interpretations and did a much more loose and painterly style. Much more abstract. I wanted to emphasize the fun color and positive energy I felt when I saw the bouquet. I like how it has a whimsical and vintage feel...this would be so cute paired with other small paintings, drawings, and prints. I'd love to do a painting like this but HUGE. A giant focal point in a dining room or entry-way that really gives a space a laid-back and fun happy cottage vibe. I think it would look cool paired with more serious furniture to give the room a twist of something unexpected and lighthearted. This piece has a lot of spunky personality and can have the same affect for the room it's in! Since I'm exploring my style here, I'm VERY curious to know which version of this painting is your favorite? Day 2 or Day 5?
