Megan Carty is a Boston area contemporary abstract artist exploring themes of triumph over hardship. Her paintings feature flowers, animals and birds purposely left unfinished as a metaphor for the ever-evolving and improving human condition. We are alway "in progress." New Abstract Expressionist Paintings by Megan Carty

Bright Abstract Expressionist painting by Megan Carty

We all know I have a huge love for color (hello, floral paintings!!!!). I also love working quickly with lots of movement and gesture. This is why the style of abstract expressionism is so appealing…the spontaneous mark-making…the color combinations…the line-work…the freedom…

In addition to my floral collection, I’m ALSO creating a large collection of abstract pieces that allow me to go wild with color and loose brushwork. I’ve been finding inspiration on Pinterest in the fashion boards. There are so many unique color combinations that are exciting in the world of luxury fashion and I’m taking my favorites to translate to canvas. I’m bringing fashion to the home!

It’s no secret our clothes help us express who we are and how we want to show up in the world and I’m taking that same feeling and applying it to my paintings. We can feel fierce and chic and badass in our homes too!

Style My Painting-Comfy Colorful Family Room design

Megan Carty

I finished this huge 48x48 inch painting (and it's for sale in the shop!)...I decided to style a fictional family room around the painting just to show what it might look like over a couch...what a fun little project this was to make! I definitely can see myself doing more of these in the future. Although I'm not an interior decorator, it can be fun to see what my paintings can look like out in the world!

30 Paintings 30 Days: Day 11

Abstract Minimalist Painting Today's painting was done in the morning during quiet prayer time. I let the brush and my hand just do what they felt they wanted and this is what came forth. Since then I have been thinking about 9/11 and how it almost feels like yesterday; yet a lifetime ago. It's a strange feeling. Now, when I look at this piece, I can see the representation of that day despite my not trying to do so. Some say God speaks through our art when we allow it. I wonder if that's true; today it certainly seems so.
