Megan Carty is an accomplished colorist whose artistry is showcased through her dynamic, gestural abstract expressionist paintings. Her pieces feature a brilliant array of bombastic techno-colors and expressive mark-making that draw inspiration from the organic world. Based in the tranquil New England countryside just outside Boston, Carty lives and creates amidst the beauty of nature.

Abstract Paintings

Megan Carty describes her abstract expressionist paintings as “visual poems that illustrate the human lived experience.” Our inner-beings are both beautiful AND flawed. In our lives’ journeys, we experience celebrations, achievements, love, and fun. In contrast, we also experience losses, injustices, abuses, and sadness. We are both given TO and taken FROM. Carty aims to document this dichotomy using specific colors, compositions with open space, and line. She pulls her mark making inspiration from plants and flowers, as they are the ultimate symbols of continuous death and renewal.

$400.00

“She Kissed Someone Better” is a 9x12 inch gouache and acrylic abstract painting (with oil pastel in the layering) on heavy art paper.

The piece is signed on the front and on the back. This piece is framed with a white wooden frame with UV protection acrylic layer. Back is wired, ready to hang.

My latest abstract pieces explore what it feels like inside my brain while overcoming life obstacles and celebrating the joys. It is complicated and full of color, confusion, decay, growth, and beauty. There is optimism, light, and energy. There is fear, desperation and stress. There is dismay, chatter, loneliness and overwhelm and it ALL exists together in the beauty of life.

I create a tangle of color, shape and line to convey this confusion of life and decay to the viewer in a relatable way. Surprisingly, the end result is something I hope to be “pretty” and interesting to look at. To be relatable and delightful despite having a morbid undercurrent. Like it has a hidden secret there in plain view…a secret shared between artist and viewer. What we see on the surface isn’t always the end of the story; it’s just the very beginning.
