Abstract Paintings
Megan Carty describes her abstract expressionist paintings as “visual poems that illustrate the human lived experience.” Our inner-beings are both beautiful AND flawed. In our lives’ journeys, we experience celebrations, achievements, love, and fun. In contrast, we also experience losses, injustices, abuses, and sadness. We are both given TO and taken FROM. Carty aims to document this dichotomy using specific colors, compositions with open space, and line. She pulls her mark making inspiration from plants and flowers, as they are the ultimate symbols of continuous death and renewal.

No Caller ID On the Rotary Phone, 24x30, Abstract Expressionist Painting
Earthy yet vibrant, this abstract expressionist painting captures the mood of a moment of risk, passion, angst, and adrenaline. There is a rush in facing your fears, hearing the word “no,” and learning to move forward in adversity. The colors and composition of gestural paint strokes capture this moment where we see what we are made of.

My abstract expressionist paintings are infused with a powerful sense of beautiful chaos in a spirited palette of bold, energetic colors inspired by couture fashion. Using acrylic, gouache, pencil and oil pastels, my works feature gestural marks and nature-inspired details meant to inspire a sense of camaraderie where the viewer discovers a joyful mirror to their own inner vitality, uniqueness, and dialogue leaving them to feel seen, heard, celebrated, and inspired.
